The story of the Fox & the Cat

Long ago in the central Kingdom lived two little boys, two sworn friends. They had grown up together and were known throughout the town as two little bringers of mischief, always looking for ways to make tiny scenes of chaos appear so they could burst out in a loud laughter.

One of the scenes would however throw their lives out of the cycle they had always in and make their lives become something new altogether.

Today they had hidden themselves among a few bales of hay on the border of the town square holding a basket of eggs. They had done this many time, throwing eggs on unknowing townsfolk who would then chase them around town. But this time was different, they were about to go very, very wrong. In the basket a rock had somehow ended up, and that was the reason everyone was about to go wrong.

A big carriage rolled into town, slowly coming to a halt just in front of the building that functioned as the place where the elder came together and made the small decisions the town was allowed to make for themselves. Outside of this carriage came a stately man, looking carefully around before making his way to the building. Just at this moment the two boys opened fire, letting a rain of eggs come down on both the stately man and the crowd that gather around them. Yet with these eggs, also came the rock which flew through the air in seemingly slow-motion, hitting the stately man right in the back of the head. The man fell slowly to the ground spitting out blood and falling down with his face flat, dying on that very instant.

The townsfolk immediately blamed the boys for this and the guards of the stately man came forward with their weapons pulled, as this was no ordinary man, the pair of brats had just killed the duke of these lands. The guards of the duke charged at the pair but they didn't think for too long and choose to run into the forest, using the necessary condition they had built up from being chased by the townsfolk to escape from the angry guards.

The two boys escaped successfully but had much greater troubles to care for, they were now both wanted fugitives and wanted men throughout the whole kingdom. Against all odds they would survive their own winter without much trouble, by living off the forest and depending on the good will of farmers or travelers to let them stay at their barns or other housings for the night. It was in this time they grow hugely accustomed to the tricks they once used to make pranks and chaos, and use it to survive in the harsh and dangerous forest of the Central Kingdom.

After a good few years of living in this harsh world they ended up in a part of woods that became darker and darker, they were approaching the dark territory, where witches, orcs and goblins were said to roam and where wary travelers didn't dare to step into. Inside these woods they found themselves in huge colorful forest clearing adorned by a beautiful structure of candy. This house didn't seem to be totally finished though as the structure was still half from wooden as the other half had been adorned by big pieces of sugary candy.

As they walked to the front of the house they seemed to be able to read 'Candy Shop' made from chocolate letters, which was situated on a big piece of marshmallow plating just above the huge wooden doors. They approached it cautiously, slowly knocking on the door. They didn't have to wait for long as a huge man answered it, this man didn't pay too much attention at them but just reclaimed 'Shop's closed boys', yet from the back of the man a bubbly woman in a pink dress came out of the shadows, and she said, let them in Garold, they are just boys, maybe I can give them something before they head on home, they can't go home empty-handed, not if they came from Mary's Candy shop.

The man hesitated by let them in anyways as he mumbled to himself: "You're too good Mary, you're too good." Mary then took them to a small shop-like section of the building filled from the bottom to the top with all the magnificent types of candy, from lollipops to jellybeans and from gummy frogs to chocolate cats. This was a true paradise for the boys and they happily took whatever they could. Mary chuckled in herself and said: "You boys look like you haven't eaten in days" while the slim and seemingly older boy answered, we haven't ma'am, we haven't. "Oh my, oh my what happened?" "We had to go from home, our parents were killed by the orcs in the north" "Oh I'm terribly sorry, where are you staying right now?" "We go from here to there, searching for a place to sleep the next night, and foraging for food throughout the day."

Mary let out a devastating “Oh!" as she ran down to the back. In the end, the boys were able to stay with Mary and Garold and the golden days started for the pair of boys. True, they had to do chores every day but the boys didn't really matter as they had a mother right now! Mary was really happy, caring for her new adoptive sons and cooking the most delightful meals, loving them with their own heart. Garold couldn't help but smile at his wife, who did this with all the passion he had, he knew that she had wanted kids for years, but he distrusted those two kids, like he knew they had a story. Little did he knew that these kids would bring a very strange turn to his life ...

Alright that's the first part of the story of the fox and the cat, the next part will be featured with the fox and will probably be even longer. I don't know why I'm giving this relatively small characters within the fairy tale world such a big backstory, but I guess I'm having fun designing the backstory and I'm planting seeds for next fairy tale characters if I'm going to continue. For now, I hope you will enjoy our nameless cat thief and I will leave you wondering how these two boys eventually end up becoming a cat and fox and end up being wounded. Also their names will also be given next time so I will update this artwork when I feature them next time so it will all become clear, for now thanks for reading and I hope you liked it
