A brief description of the holiday chosen and/or why you chose it :
Sinterklaas is a Dutch and Belgian holiday dedicated to getting gifts and presents to children all over. People also make surprise gifts for other persons, give chocolate letters and place a shoe by the chimney with carrots to let it be filled with sugars and little presents. It was my favorite holiday as a child and I hope you love the feeling of it just as much as I do!

Revel is a DeviantArt group dedicated to producing, designing and fabricating an art book celebrating Holidays from all over the globe. This is not done for pure profit tho, as the money earned from selling the book will be gifted to SickKids, a Toronto-based health care facility fighting to make every child a healthy child. I myself am deeply touched by this remark to go and earn money for kids with a subject that kids themselves like as well. I hope children may be inspired by this book and imagine what it would be like to live in different cultures and celebrate all holidays with a childish imagination to accompany. To you as my watcher, I would suggest you look into the contest and maybe even consider to give a donation if you're interested.

To me, Sinterklaas is my favorite holiday as it was one of the most celebrated when I was a child. We made suprise gifts for classmates, we got gifts like you do with Christmas and there was delicious sugared food all over the place. The best was the figure himself, he was such a legend in my eyes, a childhood hero and perhaps the very first 'superhero' I loved. There is a lot of controversy around this holiday by people who do not understand our tradition, but I decided to leave the controversial parts out of this drawing and make the drawing undecided over these factors. I hope you understand that this subject is close to heart and this painting makes me think of the lovely days I had as a child.
